Hello friends & happy summer! What a beautiful week we have had, I hope you are all able to get out and enjoy the gorgeous weather!
I wanted to take a moment to officially welcome Mickayla to our pet care team as Devon’s Dog Sitting’s very first employee!
If you have been following along, you know that getting to this point has been a journey and a half. Going from a solo entrepreneur to making your first hire requires lots of work, lots of questions, and lots of business decisions. I have been so lucky to have many veteran business owners who have helped and resources like Doug Keeling’s Hiring Course, but truly the greatest support through this whole process has been Emma Bierwas from Port City Paws (another fantastic pet care company that also services Dover as well as Portsmouth!). Emma was making her first hire at the same time and there were many nights that we exchanged dozens of frustrated voice memos about laws we were trying to understand and forms we were trying to fill out into the wee hours of the morning. (We’ve both made our hires and we might still do this…)
I’m saying this not only to congratulate Emma on her first hire as well (yay Emma!!) but to stress the importance of supporting your perceived “competition!” Supporting and encouraging other business owners around you is so vital to having a successful company, in my opinion. Without the relationships I have made with the incredible businesses around me, there’s no way I would be at the point I’m at today.
But! Back to Mickayla.
We are so lucky to have this human on our team. Some of you have already met her/your pets have met her and know just how lucky we are! I wanted to drop her bio below for those of you who didn’t see it on social media.
Which reminds me, if you’re not following Devon’s Dog Sitting on Facebook or Instagram, you are missing out on important updates, beautiful pet photos, and funny moments/tips that occur to us throughout our day on the job! Go give us a like/follow now.
Mickayla is a lover of all animals! She lives in Dover with her husband and two cats, Pumpkin and Nacho. She currently works part time at New Hampshire Fish and Game as a biologist, and is so excited to spend the other half of her time with your fur babies! She has grown up with all kinds of pets, from dogs and cats, to birds and hedgehogs. Giving animals all of the love and attention they deserve is one of her favorite things to do, when she’s not hiking, birding, or spending time with her niece and nephews. She can’t wait to meet you and your pets!
